Astor's Notes

Card text:

Tony Britton

Date: 27th November 1967
Theatre: Vaudeville
Production: A Woman of No Importance
Character: Lord Illingworth
Review: A very smooth performance as the unscrupulous lead. He spoke his part particularly well, and seemed very certain what he was about. Looked and dressed it well.
Date: 25th March 1969
Theatre: Duchess
Production: A Boston Story
Character: Roger
Review: Played this very moral humourless fusspot very well, managing to submerge his natural smoothness. Likeable performance, though slightly overdone.
Date: 18th March 1971
Theatre: Vaudeville
Production: Move Over Mrs Markham
Character: Mr Markham
Review: He is tall, smooth and knows what he is about but I felt he was out of his element in this thin marital farce. His is not a Leslie Phillips or a Donald Sinden, but he has a go.
Date: 12th July 1990
Theatre: Chichester
Production: The Silver King
Character: Daniel Jaikes
Review: Played the faithful servant and got a lot of strength and fun out of this. 6′, white-haired, mid 60s.
Date: 13th June 1991
Theatre: Chichester
Production: Henry VIII
Character: Cardinal Wolsey
Review: Splendidly evil and very clearly spoken. He made a good impact in this. He is now around late 60s.
