Astor's Notes

Card text:

Brian Blessed

Date: 9th March 1966
Theatre: Phoenix
Production: Incident at Vichy
Character: Bayard
Review: As the working man with communist ideas, gave a strong performance, but lacking in any great depth. Would seem not to be a thinking actor, but his strength physically and mentally comes over.
Date: 13th September 1984
Theatre: Stratford
Production: Henry V
Character: Duke of Exeter
Review: Brought his usual gusto and strength and attacked throughout. Always watchable. 6′, large, bearded, with a rather individual but likeable voice.
Date: 13th September 1984
Theatre: Stratford
Production: Richard the Third
Character: Lord Hastings
Review: Brought his enormous vigour and sheer enjoyment to this part handling it all quite splendidly.
Date: 21st August 1989
Theatre: Piccadilly
Production: Metropolis
Character: John Freeman
Review: Played the heavy boss of the Metropolis. An uncompromising character which he attacked with his usual vigour and sang as best he could, giving an enormous amount of energy. Not a great singer but he does work hard. Stocky, bearded, 6′, around 50.
