Astor's Notes

Card text:

Tom Baker

Date: 27th October 1966
Theatre: Cambridge Theatre
Production: The Winter’s Tale
Character: Autolicus
Review: Understudy on. He is a big, comical looking man with a real natural comedy talent, not perhaps ideally suited for Shakespearean buffoonery, but had the right approach. His voice not clear enough.
Date: 2nd November 1973
Theatre: Shaw
Production: Macbeth
Character: Macbeth
Review: Had neither the voice or the presence to get away with this. 6’1″, bearded mid 30s, his voice lacked clarity and variety and his bouncy quiet movements seemed out of character for this great soldier. It was a totally committed effort which fell rather flat and never took dramatic fire.
